Louis Maxwell The best part of this is the back and forth between Matthew Lee and the UN spokesperson at press conferences. I love how the spokesperson keeps emphasizing, that Lee only writes a "blog" (as if his responses should be any different!) Reuters and FP's Turtle Bay slant skeptical about the execution theory. Huff 'n Puff also posts a "friendly fire" line. But, I love Lee's attitude.

Barmitzvahgate Not that anyone mentioned Gaza, Israel or Palestine (too hopeless?) except in the context of a war on Iran, but I thought I'd throw in how outraged I've been over the success of Israeli propaganda (aided and abetted by the USA) in demonizing Judge Richard Goldstone.
The lunatic Israeli right wing has successfully demonized Goldstone throughout the Jewish diaspora to the extent that for a while he was shunned by the synagogue when his grandson was having a Bar Mitzvah.
Here's a moving response from progressive rabbis that exhorts Israelis and the Jewish diaspora (of which I'm a member) to wake up.
Dear Judge Goldstone, As rabbis from diverse traditions and locations, we want to extend our warmest mazel tov to you as an elder in our community upon the bar mitzvah of your grandson. Bar and Bat Mitzvah is a call to conscience, a call to be responsible for the welfare of others, a call to fulfill the covenant of peace and justice articulated in our tradition. And it didn't get any better on Monday, when the UN summarized its findings, that Louis Maxwell was killed by a "long distance" bullet while next to Afghan National forces who neither flinches nor looked up as he fell dead.
